The Vatican has signed an agreement to install a solar park on its territory, aiming to become the first country in the world to achieve carbon neutrality. Announced on July 31, 2025, the initiative involves the construction of a photovoltaic plant on an extraterritorial property located in Santa Maria di Galeria, near Rome. The project was developed in collaboration with the Italian company Fortore Energia and is intended to fully supply the Vatican State’s energy needs with solar power. This initiative aligns with Pope Francis’s environmental commitments and his encyclical Laudato Si’, representing a concrete step toward climate sustainability from one of the world’s most symbolic institutions.
