Ana Toni, Executive Director of COP30, emphasized the urgency of developing a more effective strategy to phase out fossil fuels and accelerate the global energy transition. Ahead of the summit to be held in Belém do Pará, Brazil, from November 10 to 21, she highlighted the need for turning commitments into concrete actions and ensuring that climate finance—estimated at USD 300 billion annually by 2035—is effectively delivered to support developing countries. Toni also stressed the importance of reforming international financial mechanisms and strengthening the link between mitigation and biodiversity, warning that geopolitical tensions and economic priorities could distract from the real goal: achieving a just and sustainable transition.
