{"id":1376,"date":"2018-03-09T19:35:40","date_gmt":"2018-03-09T19:35:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.genesisarg.com\/?p=1376"},"modified":"2018-03-12T19:38:08","modified_gmt":"2018-03-12T19:38:08","slug":"expertos-mediran-el-impacto-climatico-en-las-ciudades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.genesisarg.com\/en\/novedades\/expertos-mediran-el-impacto-climatico-en-las-ciudades\/","title":{"rendered":"Experts Establish Blueprint to Gauge Impact of Climate Change on Cities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UN Climate Change News, 9 March 2018<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Experts have established a global blueprint to better understand climate change, its impacts on cities, and the critical role local authorities play in solving this challenge.<\/p>\n<p>Cities are responsible for some 75% of global CO2 emissions, with transport and buildings being among the largest contributors.<\/p>\n<p>The research agenda was drawn up at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/citiesipcc.org\/\">IPCC Cities and Climate Change Science Conference<\/a>\u00a0that ended in Edmonton, Canada this week<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe impacts of climate change are already being felt in our urban areas, and the next few years are critical for determining how effectively we will rise to the challenge of protecting our cities (\u2026) This research won\u2019t just help save our cities \u2013 it will also improve them for generations to come,\u201d said Seth Schultz, Director of Science and Innovation with the C40 Climate Leadership Group and one of the co-chairs of the conference\u2019s Scientific Steering Committee.<\/p>\n<p>A primary focus of the conference was on the Paris Agreement, the UN\u2019s Sustainable Development goals, the New Urban Agenda, and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, all of which require cities to implement new sustainable development plans to adapt and respond to climate change.<\/p>\n<p>The range of knowledge gained from the sessions will help chart a course for current and future sources of emissions, urban climate impacts, and pathways for cities to pursue emissions reduction and resilience strategies.<\/p>\n<article class=\"embedded-entity align-center align-center embedded-entity-media embedded-entity-media-media-video-embed embedded-entity-view-mode-only-medium\">\n<div class=\"embedded-entity-content\">\n<article class=\"media media-media-video-embed view-mode-only-medium\" data-url=\"media\/49771\">\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-media-video-embed-field field--type-video-embed-field field--label-hidden field--item\">\n<div class=\"video-embed-field-responsive-video form-group\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eR3IMhh1tx0?autoplay=0&amp;start=0&amp;rel=0\" width=\"854\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<p><strong>Cities Are Playing a Central Role in Global Efforts to Raise Climate Ambition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>UN Climate Change is also promoting more climate ambition on the part of cities and increased investment in investing in livable, low-carbon, resilient urban development.<\/p>\n<p>The recently launched \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/talkofthecities.iclei.org\/the-talanoa-route-to-new-climate-governance\/\">Cities and Regions Talanoa Dialogue<\/a>\u201d provides opportunities to advance governance on climate action, specifically in urban areas. The scheme aims to ensure coordinated action across all levels of government, and will be facilitated by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iclei.org\/\">ICLEI<\/a>\u00a0-Local Governments for Sustainability with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalcovenantofmayors.org\/\">Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate &amp; Energy<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unhabitat.org\/\">UN-Habitat<\/a>\u00a0as special partners.<\/p>\n<p>This is\u00a0part of the wider\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cop23.unfccc.int\/news\/un-opens-talanoa-dialogue-portal-aiming-for-higher-climate-ambition\">Talanoa Dialogue<\/a>\u00a0launched by the Presidency of the UN Climate Change Conference COP23 in Bonn last year, an important international conversation in which countries will check progress and seek to increase global ambition to meet the goals of the Paris Climate Change Agreement.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UN Climate Change News, 9 March 2018\u00a0\u2013 Experts have established a global blueprint to better understand climate change, its impacts on cities, and the critical role local authorities play in solving this challenge.
