The Minister of Environment and Control of Sustainable Development, Lic. Eduardo Arzani chaired yesterday the virtual meeting that under the title “Greening of finances in Argentina: an opportunity for Chubut”, summoned from the Ministry of Environment to more than thirty officials and technicians of the Provincial State and the Secretaries of the Environment of Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego, Mariano Bertinat and Eugenia Alvarez.

Lic. Eduardo Piquero, Manager of  MEXICO2 company and Lic. Alejandra Cámara, Executive Director of the GENESIS Consultant, presented the Project “Greening Finance in Argentina to Combat Climate Change and Promote Inclusion ”, which aims to increase knowledge about sustainable financing in the country, greening local financial instruments and identifying risks related to climate change in order to move towards a low-carbon and more sustainable economy.

After the meeting, Arzani thanked “the ministers and other members of the provincial cabinet, the deputy Juan País and the secretaries of the Environment of Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego for their participation, which reflects the interest that the issue arouses.”

In this sense, he indicated that “although for Chubut and the region, these financing lines constitute a novel tool, the global growth of these tools is notable, as an alternative scheme for generating public income, destined to promote triple actions. impact: economic, environmental and social ”.

“From the Ministry of Environment we seek to lay the foundations for the promotion of a domestic carbon market, seeking to promote the development of capacities and a platform to explore market instruments that support the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG’s). ), leading the Province of Chubut a necessary process for all of Patagonia ”, he concluded.

Financial Tools for Action

Among the current tools are Carbon Taxes and Emissions Trading Systems (ETS), which have many similarities, given that they both put a price on carbon and provide a direct financial incentive to mitigate emissions.

These actions seek, among other things, the transfer of knowledge and capacity building through specialized courses with the financial sector, governments, investors and Argentine companies on green financing.

Neutral Carbon Footprint projects can be financed, which generate social and environmental benefits, in agricultural-livestock productive activities, sustainable fishing, forestry production, agro-industry, industrial and service activities, and sustainable construction.

It is worth mentioning that MEXICO2 is a subsidiary company of Grupo Bolsa Mexicana de Valores, which created the first voluntary emissions compensation platform in Mexico, under the highest qualified carbon standards.

He has specialized in the creation of green trading instruments, such as carbon credits, clean energy and green bonds. It is also present in several Latin American markets since 2013 such as Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru and the Dominican Republic, supporting local governments and companies in these areas.
